Sinkane, who’s performed with Yeasayer, of Montreal, Caribou, and more, has spent the past decade and a half forging an exciting solo career, which will continue on April 5 with his new album We Belong. Ahead of its City Slang release, the musician born Ahmed Gallab has shared a new single entitled “Come Together.”

The track, which is decidedly not a Beatles cover, is a disco-funk recording with triumphant harmonic calls to do precisely what the title suggests, and dizzying synth lines that give the song an infectious underlying club energy. “‘Come Together’ is a bridge between past and the present Sinkane music,” the musician shared in a press statement. “It is a familiar sound and message laced with new energy grounded in a way that previous Sinkane work wasn’t. It is the by-product of a lot of self-work and, more importantly, a newfound self-love.”

The accompanying visual begins with an old African proverb: “Birds sing not because they have answers but because they have songs.” The video was directed by Bruno Ferreira, and he and Sinkane view it as a tribute to Africa and the people of Cape Vert.
