Helen Mirren RED trailer

Dame Helen Mirren is perfect. Not only has she played the Queen, she is a queen (of our hearts). She is a veteran of the Royal Shakespeare Company, a BAFTA and Academy Award winner and multi-nominee, and she wears the hell out of the Union Jack flag. But to remain perfect is to continually strive to set a new and higher bar of perfection. Which is why the people in charge at the Fast & Furious franchise need to let Helen Mirren be in the next one.

In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Mirren lamented:

My great ambition is to be in a Fast and Furious movie. I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast and Furious movie. My claim to fame is I always do my own driving—I was on Top Gear, and I did [my lap] in a very good time. I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me. I’ll be in Fast and Furious 8. I have to say Vin Diesel is brilliant. I love Vin Diesel. He’s a great guy, smart—I love him. It’s partly because of him I’d like to be in one, but also the driving. I’d also love to do another Red-type movie, because those are such fun to do.

This is a no-brainer. This is a win for Helen Mirren, this is a win for any audience anywhere, and this is a win for the art of filmmaking.

I’m going to leave this here and see my way out.
