2015. Future Islands playing The Chase on Late Night with David Letterman

David Letterman is wrapping up his thirty-three-year tenure at the Late Show in just a few weeks, and though he will be remembered as one of the best talk show hosts of the post-Carson era (seriously, where else are you going to see a showbiz veteran down raw eggs like it’s no big deal?), part of his excellence has always been directly related to the show’s stellar musical guests, frequently backed by the unbelievably versatile Paul Shaffer and his CBS Orchestra.

Last March, one of the most memorable performances in recent years went down when Future Islands stopped by to play their insta-classic “Seasons (Waiting On You),” with frontman Samuel T. Herring tearing the joint up, much to the delight of Dave and the Internet at large.

As part of the final set of musical guests compiled by special invite only, Future Islands returned to the Ed Sullivan Theater last night to premiere the A-side of a fantastic new single, “The Chase,” which was introduced by a dedication to the people of Baltimore, where the group is based, and appropriately accompanied by a little help from Shaffer, Felicia Collins, and Will Lee.

Following the show, the studio version of both “The Chase” and its B-side “Haunted By You,” were released online, with the announcement that the limited edition vinyl release will be out on June 30 via Sub Pop. You can listen to those tracks below. Better place them pre-orders.
