Alt-R&B duo FARR may be spread between two different continents, but that physical distance certainly doesn’t come through in their seamlessly smooth recordings. Their most recent single “Doom Gloom” is an emotive heartbreak ballad cruising on a jazzy hip-hop live instrumental from GRAMMY-nominated producer Linden Jay and falsetto vocals from Roméo before a beat switch midway through sees the song make a strong pivot to a Danger Mouse–like beat and cooly rapped bars.

The duo recently recorded a performance of the track in Los Feliz in Roméo’s hometown of LA for “Neighborhoods.” Sticking closely to the blueprint of the original recording, it’s impressive to see them shift gears midway through the four-and-a-half-minute recording as their lamp-lit makeshift performance space gives way to a flashing light show.
