Since dropping his debut LP Drift in 2009, Nosaj Thing (a.k.a. Jason Chung) has become a poster child for the burgeoning experimental electronic scene in LA amongst other mainstays like Kutmah and Flying Lotus. Starting off performing at DIY venues like The Smell, Chung has recently catapulted beyond his humble origins, but his mindset is still grounded, unmistakable from the quiet graciousness of his early days.

Here, in the premiere episode of FLOOD’s The Science Of series, the soft-spoken Chung sat down (and skated around town) with us to talk about his creative and technical process, from being a playful and curious kid in the city to putting together the pieces that led to his latest release, Fated.

Fated is out now via Innovative Leisure.
