Roland Emmerich’s iron-lung blockbuster Independence Day is getting the sequel treatment, and now that production has started, more casting and plot info have come out, revealing a storyline about—surprise!—aliens.

Joining Jeff Goldblum in accepting a massive paycheck to reprise their roles are Bill Pullman and Vivica A. Fox (oh, and also Brent Spiner and Judd Hirsch—essential characters that you’ll recognize when you see them), who will all do their best to pretend that it’s not weird that Will Smith isn’t there. Sela Ward (Gone Girl), William Fichtner (The Dark Knight), Maika Monroe (It Follows), and Charlotte Gainsbourg (what?) have all been added in undefined roles as well.

According to Collider, the basic synopsis is as follows:

After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Sure, OK.

At least Emmerich is handling the second wave of his career better than Uwe Boll…

Independence Day 2 is slated for a June 24, 2016 release.
