LA indie duo Deap Vally might have a lackadaisical approach in regards to spelling, but when it comes to playing its brand of bare-bones, confessional rock and roll, there’s no messing about. Julie Edwards and Lindsey Troy have made their career off that reputation, leaving a trail blazing behind their 2013 debut Sistrionix.

Stopping by Gulf Shores, Alabama, for a performance at the Hangout Music Festival, Deap Vally made a visit to the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, which was on-hand all weekend for artist sessions and interviews, with extra assistance added from a few Gulf Shores High School students selected to get involved. The band in turn provided the lucky crew with a piercing version of the non-album track “Reflection.”

Don’t forget to take notes, kids.

Sistrionix is out now via Island.
