At the end of last year, premium cable channel Starz got our hopes up (and our chainsaw motors humming) when it announced that it greenlit a brand-new television series based on Sam Raimi‘s Evil Dead film franchise aptly titled Ash Vs. Evil Dead.

This morning, Entertainment Weekly revealed our first look at Bruce Campbell back in action as Ash, as well as some very crucial plot details about the upcoming ten-episode series (apparently scheduled to start airing this Halloween).

Ash Vs. Evil Dead takes place over two decades after Ash Williams had last defeated the Deadites, and as Campbell told EW, the titular character is not exactly looking forward to getting back into the demon fighting business:

He was perfectly happy doing basically nothing: telling lies about how he lost his hand in bars late at night. That was basically his MO. So, he’s not really the guy who should be dealing with this right now. But … he is. He’s our guy!

Raimi—who directed of the first episode of the upcoming series—added some essential details about Campbell’s role:

He’s the only one stupid enough to really tamper with those spirits, and he does. But he’s also still a really good monster fighter. So, he’s also going to be kicking some deadite buttocks, if you’ll pardon the French.

No apology necessary, Sam. That’s exactly what we wanted to hear.
