Damon Albarn Africa Express // Roskilde 2015

Earlier this year, Damon Albarn‘s Africa Express released their polyrhythmic take on Terry Riley‘s classic modernist composition In C. Riley’s piece has no set duration, but evolves at the will of the conductor. At this weekend’s Roskilde Fest in Denmark, the Blur frontman pushed the idea—if not In C itself—to its limits, running Africa Express through a five-hour set that ended with Albarn himself being carried off of the stage by his stage manager while singing “Should I Stay Or Should I Go”. See the video below, as well as footage of Africa Express covering Randy Newman’s “Baltimore.”
