Arcade Fire have announced the release of The Reflektor Tapes, a concert film and documentary that follows the creation of the group’s 2013 album Reflektor. Director Kahlil Joseph (Kendrick Lamar, FKA twigs) was on hand when Arcade Fire began to plot the album’s songs in Jamaica, and he stayed with the Montreal sextet through Reflektor‘s recording and touring.
Joseph’s footage includes time the group spent in Haiti, where they played an impromptu gig in a hotel lobby on the first night of Carnival. Singer Régine Chassagne’s parents immigrated to Canada from Haiti while the latter country was under the dictatorship of Jean-Claude Duvalier. The group have been vocal in their support of the country’s recovery from the devastating 2010 earthquake.
Ahead of the film, Arcade Fire have released a video for Reflektor cut “Porno,” which was also shot by Joseph. It finds Win Butler and Chassagne wandering the streets of Port-Au-Prince and culminates in live footage of the whole band playing for a festival audience. You can watch that video—and the trailer for The Reflektor Tapes—below.
The limited release of The Reflektor Tapes hits theaters on September 24. Check here for more info.
