FLOODfest Chicago 2015, Saturday

And just like that, it’s over! The first FLOODfest Chicago—our three-night extravaganza at the Virgin Hotel, presented by Vnue—is now in the record books, and in our memories forever.

After the second day of Lollapalooza wound down, our nighttime fest ramped up with a DJ set by Jamie Strong and a high-energy performance by alt-rock darlings Coin. The jams continued on the twenty-fifth floor with an intimate and dynamic performance by Hippo Campus. Meanwhile, down on floor three, the Innovative Leisure takeover kept rolling with a thrilling performance by jazz-rock group BadBadNotGood, who brought sax back to the dance floor (not to mention a dynamite cover of Gucci Mane’s “Lemonade”). Then the Canadians’ label mate Hanni El Khatib tore into an insanely good set including tracks from his latest LP Moonlight and older jams from Head in the Dirt (2013) and Will the Guns Come Out (2011). While the lights were low for his performance, the intensity was up to eleven as he jumped into the crowd—which included actor Michael Peña—to shred like no one was watching. Gabriel Garzón-Montano closed out FLOODfest Chicago 2015 with some sultry stripped-down tracks on the twenty-fifth floor to a lucky few (including Zoe Kravitz).
