Tumblr Back Online, Balance in Universe Restored
The Tumblr crisis of 2010 has finally ended. For the past 24 hours, the microblogging service was down because of a database failure. As a result, a spate of complaints — from frustrated teenage girls to New York hipsters — has flooded Twitter.
Some Tumblr users, however, took advantage of the situation by finally starting their homework.

But for those who didn’t have any homework or already finished it, the outage gave them an opportunity to look inward and reexamine their existence:

The outage, which began Sunday afternoon, was the result of a “major issue” in one of Tumblr’s database clusters. Service was down for more than 24 hours, the longest in the website’s three-year history.
But as of about 4 p.m. PST on Monday, “all blogs are online and we’re incrementally restoring access to the Dashboard,” a staff member tweeted.
In other news, Twitter remains up.
