Fresh off of his Oscar–nominated performance in Boyhood, Ethan Hawke is now adding his talents to a biopic about the great jazz trumpeter Chet Baker.

Born to Be Blue follows Baker (Hawke) in the late ’60s, in the midst of trying to regain control of his life and career after a crippling heroin addiction. The film, which will premiere in a couple of weeks at the Toronto Film Festival, will also depict the aftermath of the musical legend’s horrific beating in Northern California.
