Realities of the market notwithstanding, it seems strange to get these little album teases from Daniel Lopatin, the laptop collagist better known as Oneohtrix Point Never. As with the work of any other composer, Lopatin’s albums are carefully plotted, and they draw their power and tension gradually, over their entire course.

That may be why Lopatin has made “Mutant Standard” the latest single from his forthcoming LP, Garden of Delete. The eight-minute track sits right at the album’s center, and with its rapidly firing pulses and comfortable relationship with silence, it represents Garden of Delete at its most challenging—a portrait of the album in miniature.

Garden of Delete is out November 13 on Warp.
