WATCH: Live Inside Björk’s Throat for “Mouth Mantra” Video

Vulnicura is out now via One Little Indian.

In January, Björk surprised the world by releasing her ninth full-length album—the stunning Vulnicura—months before its original release date. Now, even almost a year after the LP’s release, she’s still bringing new depths to tracks through innovative music videos including “Mouth Mantra,” which premiered today. To fully bring the album’s song about her successful vocal chord nodule surgery to life, Björk enlisted director Jesse Kanda for a twisted technological art piece.

The video takes viewers on an abstract and textured journey around (a model) of Björk’s mouth and throat before traveling outside her body to watch the Icelandic goddess dance around a dark room. It’s disturbing and awe-inspiring all at the same time. Björk spoke to Dazed about the video’s behind-the-scenes process:

i am so extremely grateful to jesse to be up for going on this journey …. it was brave of him to take it on and i feel spoiled having witnessed him grow , making hi tech mouth models and inventing cameras all to match a little therapeutic song about the throat . his dedication and devotion is overwhelming !!! i am especially grateful for those sassy dancefloor moments we managed to squeeze in there aswell : true magic !!

Watch the “true magic” unfold below.
