Oscar de la Renta, the iconic Dominican designer, died Monday evening. He was eighty-two years old. The family confirmed his death, as well as his company who posted about his passing in a handwritten statement posted on the designer’s official website Tuesday morning.
De la Renta—whose illustrious career spanned over five decades—dressed every first lady from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to most recently, Michelle Obama at the Fashion Education Workshop held at the White House this month. He also dressed numerous Hollywood A-listers, including frequent clients Sarah Jessica Parker, Sandra Bullock, and Amy Adams.
The classic designer was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. He is survived by his second wife, Annette, and son Moises.
