Reggie Watts in “Creative Control”

There’s a certain cycle that runs its course every time a major advancement in consumer technology hits the market. First, the excitement. Then, the hand-wringing over our new gadgets’ effects on our humanity. Then, the acceptance of our new digital overlords. It’s an idea that’s been examined everywhere from Spike Jonze‘s Her to the UK TV show Black Mirror, and now one of the biggest purveyors of fine electronic goods is going to take a crack at it, too.

Amazon Studios, the film wing of the company delivering your packages via drone, has just released a trailer for Creative Control, Benjamin Dickinson‘s dark comedy about tech giants who create a Google Glass–style augmented reality device called Augmenta (whose capabilities are demonstrated by an excellent Reggie Watts). Dickinson, who also wrote and stars in the film, uses tech as a setting—the screen flashes with Her-style graphics, allowing him to fantasize about a colleague, but they’re meant to drive the story’s emotional action.

And drive they do. You can check out the escalating drama in the trailer below.

Creative Control hits theaters March 11, but as /Film points out, don’t be surprised if it ends up on Amazon Instant Video soon.
