It’s been two years since singer-songwriter Andrew Bird released Things Are Really Great Here, Sort Of…, but chances are that you’ve heard new music from him more recently than you’d expect—Bird’s signature guitar picking and whimsical whistling soundtrack FX’s new show (and one of our most anticipated of 2016) Baskets. In addition to scoring a show about Zack Galifianakis trying to make it as a rodeo clown in Bakersfield, California, Bird has been putting the finishing touches on his twelfth full-length Are You Serious.
This morning, Bird dropped the lead single from the upcoming, more personal LP. “Capsized,” which is a recorded version of a track that the musician has been touring with (under different names) for years, is a strong reintroduction to the classically trained violinist. Lyrically, the track dives straight into the universal wayward feeling after a painful breakup, but “Capsized” finds Bird veering towards more soulful and strong vocals.
Are You Serious isn’t out for two months, but you can check out the lead single and album details—complete with compelling artwork by John Baldessari—now. Bird is also embarking on a massive tour, so make sure to see when he’s rolling through your town below.
