2016. “Confirmation” trailer

Twenty-five years ago, federal Circuit Judge Clarence Thomas was about to be confirmed for the newly opened Supreme Court position when a private FBI interview with Anita Hill was leaked to the press. Hill, Thomas’s assistant at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission at the time, alleged that he had sexually harassed her on several occasions. Thus the he said, she said media circus began, captivating America and opening up an important dialogue about workplace sexual misconduct. HBO is now following in American Crime Story‘s footsteps and releasing a made-for-TV movie about this, another controversial and highly televised event from the early ’90s.

A couple days ago, the cable network released the first trailer for the aptly named Confirmation. The film, which was directed by Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), stars Kerry Washington as Hill and Wendell Pierce as Thomas as well as Greg Kinnear (Joe Biden), Jennifer Hudson (Angela Wright), and Eric Stonestreet (Kenneth Duberstein).

Confirmation will premiere on HBO on April 16.
