R&B singer Adiam made a splash last fall with her Dark Lake EP, and now the Berlin-based Swede is preparing to release her followup, Quiet Desperation. She’s already shared the title track, and today we’re pleased to be premiering the second single, “Runaway,” which you can hear below.

The track begins in darkness, with Adiam singing “I left the bridges burning / There’s no way you’ll ever find me” over a keening guitar and an industrial beat lightly reminiscent of FKA twigs. While producer Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio subtly bends that guitar from a pained wail to a cry of freedom, Adiam sings in big, broad notes in the chorus: “I’m free, and everything is going to be alright with me.” And while the song never loses its sense of foreboding, it’s hard not to believe her.

Take a listen to “Runaway” below (and check out the track’s dark mood video), then check out Quiet Desperation’s artwork and track list.
