PREMIERE: Misha Returns to the “Limelight” in Video from First Album since 2007

The polyglot musician returns with his second record on May 20.

It’s been nearly nine years since J Chao released Teardrop Sweetheart, his debut as Misha. Since 2007, he’s gone through a few things—the loss of his longtime romantic and artistic partner and the deaths of both of his grandmothers, namely—but he’s absorbed far more. As he prepared, wrote, and recorded All We Will Become, his new album, he drew on a lifetime spent in transit between cultures. Raised in Texas, seasoned in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Germany, Chao developed a polyglot palette as hungry for tejano and norteño as it is Reich and Glass and Beyoncé and Autre Ne Veut. The dude has range.

Today, we’re pleased to be premiering the music video for the gauzy, downbeat album single “Limelight.” Just as the song weaves together woozy comedown R&B with digitized gamelan scales, the clip follows an intertwined couple as they try and fail to go about their night without one another. You can check it out below.

All We Will Become is out May 20 via Tomlab.
