Seattle’s Beat Connection released Product 3 into the world back in November, when the record’s soft synths felt cool to the touch and the muffled pizzicato twinkles felt as much like lullabies as they did stylish R&B. At the time, it felt like dance-pop you could curl up with.
You’d think that would make “Ad Space,” the album’s centerpiece, feel out of place now that the world is opening back up. But you’d be wrong. While the live version of the song, whose video we’re pleased to be premiering today, retains the original’s 4 a.m. weariness, it feels open and more communal in a live setting—you’re not staying out that late alone anyway, right? Those sleepy Balearic beats are matched by simple pulses of light that shift in and out with the delayed triggers that trickle across the song’s rhythm. It’s still intimate, sure, but nobody said you had to curl up alone.
