When last we heard from In the Whale, the Denver duo were hammering out a space for themselves on the circuit with Head Wound City and No Age. Nate Valdez and Eric Riley have since gone on to play Riot Fest, Lollapalooza, and ACL, and their hook-heavy heaviness has won them gigs with Jane’s Addiction and the Toadies—a particularly apt pair of bands given In the Whale’s devotion to Big Muff pedals and shoutalong choruses.
They released their latest EP, Quicksand, back in October, and today we’re premiering the video for the track “Galaxie.” Like the band whose song it scores, the clip’s easy shifts between quirky irony and earnest performance are a welcome throwback to the pleasantly angsty, radio-ready grunge videos of the mid-’90s.
