As a first-generation Israeli with Romanian roots, as well as a former New York City expat (with experience in the jazz and punk scene there), Tamir Muskat of Balkan Beat Box has a unique view of what it means to be worldly in 2017. Currently, he takes that view in from Tel Aviv, where he and Eyal Gruenberg run APE Records, a production house and label that specializes in singles-only releases that come packaged with a music video, making-of documentary, and live version of the song.

APE’s relationship with the city—and music scene at large—made it the perfect subject for our new video series, “You Are Here,” which takes an inside look at the way location informs artistry. In the video, Muskat introduces us to his process, mindset, and home, as well as what inspires him to work with a diverse and progressive group of artists like Renno, Gilad Kahana, and Elisee Akowendo.

Below, you can take the trip to Israel with Muskat as your guide, and you can check out the dates and details of Balkan Beat Box’s Shout It Out tour here.
