For career photographers like Sebastião Salgado, being able to blend in is a prerequisite of the job. Somewhat ironically, however, excelling at this skill can create an interest that warrants turning the camera back around on its user, as it was so wonderfully for Vivian Maier last year, and as it is now for Salgado himself.

Directed by both Palme d’Or winner Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas) and Salgado’s son, Jiliano Ribeiro Salgado, The Salt of the Earth documents the dizzying career of the Brazilian photographer, and how he spent his life traveling to the farthest reaches of the world in an effort to capture images often unseen by the Western ends of it.

The Salt of the Earth will be released March 27, 2015.
