Calling your music festival “Treasure Island” after it’s been exported from the titular Bay Area island is kinda like continuing to call Minnesota’s National Basketball League team “the Lakers” after they’d relocated to Los Angeles—it works if no one thinks about it too hard.
The newly relocated Oakland festival returned this past weekend after last year’s hiatus, bringing Tame Impala, A$AP Rocky, Courtney Barnett, Pusha T, and many more to West Oakland’s Middle Harbor Shoreline Park. With the San Francisco skyline still reflected in the nearby bay behind each stage, the festival maintained its offshore theme.
