If there is one thing we’ve learned from St. Vincent’s already-storied career, it’s to always expect the unexpected.

Such is definitely the case with the guitar hero’s most unexpected cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 1991 tune, “Breaking the Girl,” found on the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

St. Vincent (a.k.a. Annie Clark) rolled out an acoustic take on the track at the Hollywood Palladium over the weekend (January 13) while performing at a benefit for victims of the recent Woolsey wildfires.

“I wanna give a very special thank you to [current RHCP guitarist] Josh Klinghoffer,” Clark said from the stage at the event that also featured Beck and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, according to Rolling Stone, “for fucking bitching guitar playing, but also for correcting my chords just about twenty minutes ago.”
