For those of you lucky enough to catch Car Seat Headrest on tour in the coming months, know that you’ll be getting a bit of bonus action: opener Naked Giants is comprised of three of Headrest’s touring band members. But this isn’t to say they’re an extension of Will Toledo’s bedroom pop built for a stadium audience—the energetic Seattle rock trio play sprawling ballads with the post-punk aggression of Metz and more than a passing interest in Reverend Horton Heat’s psychobilly freakouts.
Tomorrow, Naked Giants are dropping Green Fuzz, a four-track EP containing the chaotic, nine-minute live staple “Green Fuzz” and the nearly-as-long, nearly-as-chaotic “That’s Who’s Really Pointing at Me.” In addition, the record comes equipped with an on-air recording of their single “Everybody Thinks They Know (But No One Really Knows)” for KUTX Austin and a pared-down version of “Pointing” clocking in at a radio-friendly three minutes.
Says drummer Henry LaVallee of the EP:
“We’ve been on the road like crazy this last year, from playing with our friends in Car Seat Headrest, to promoting our first label release with SLUFF, to writing and demoing our next LP. The Green Fuzz EP concept was to give a few of our longer songs a platform to exist that would be something excellent to own as a 10″. “Green Fuzz” has been a staple of our live set for almost three years now, and we figured it was time to get it pressed (on green vinyl) and put it out into the world. The B-side, “That’s Who’s Really Pointing At Me,” was originally a phrase we began repeating to one another in rhythmic chant one night. Gianni found a great riff to accompany the words, and one day in the studio we ended up making a pretty thrashy Naked Giants song from it.”
Check out the EP in full below a day ahead of its release (via New West), and catch them on tour through June at the dates listed on their website. Make sure to stop by the merch table and pick up a limited edition 10″ vinyl version pressed on translucent green vinyl.
