When it came time for Bay Ledges to make a music video for “I Wonder,” the California desert called.

“The whole crew, made up mostly of our friends from LA, went out to Twentynine Palms for a couple days to make the video. Just about everybody who worked on it was in it,” shared the band’s mastermind, Zach Hurd.

“If you weren’t in front of the camera, you still had to wear the all-blue team outfits you see us dressed in. This was [director Shawheen Keyani’s] idea, which made the whole process pretty hilarious and fun, despite how freezing cold it was out there,” Hurd added. “Everybody who worked on this project put a lot of love into it, so I’m really proud of it.”

The resulting clip captures the song’s electric energy and haunting melodies, making the most of the stark Cali desert locale. It’s a tune that’ll stick with listeners well after the fact, making its chart-topping status no surprise.

“I Wonder,” taken from Bay Ledge’s most recent EP, In Waves, is already a Spotify hit. The song has climbed to the top spot of the streaming service’s “Indie Pop” playlist.

“I was pretty bummed out when I started working on this song with Christian Medice,” Hurd said of the collaboration with the popular producer. “I’d recently gone through a breakup and the lyrics were a reflection of that. But I don’t think it’s a super sad song. It’s more hoping the other person’s doing ok and documenting the general malaise I was feeling.”
