Remember that time Deafheaven almost won a Grammy? It feels like just yesterday that people were learning the extent to which they could tolerate black metal, hearing George Clarke’s cacodemonic screeds about dream houses and sunbathers for the first time. Now the band is selling out world tours, and presumably only not winning awards from the Recording Academy because, well, High on Fire.
To console their disappointed fans—as the overlap between the black metal community and people who give a shit about the Grammys is presumably substantial—the SoCal band is sharing a brand new track called “Black Brick,” an absolute firestorm that’s considerably more “Glint” than “Near” on an Ordinary Corrupt Human Love scale.
