We’ve been waiting six years for a follow-up to Hell Bent, the stellar debut from West-Coast-via-East-Coast garage rock threepiece Potty Mouth, and today it’s finally here. SNAFU possesses all the fiery energy and ’90s nostalgia of the group’s first record, softened with a newfound bubblegum appeal.

As part of the rollout, the band is sharing a colorful video for their track “Liar,” imposing the anthem over a clip that’s aesthetically equal parts Speed Racer and Power Rangers. With a Megazord-sized villain looking somewhat like an archetypal music industry figure, I’ll bet there’s some sort of meaning behind the narrative.

“‘Liar’ was the last song written for the record,” frontwoman Abby Weems recalls. “We knew we wanted a more raw sounding rock song to complete the variety of songs on the whole album, so the main inspiration was ‘Monkey Wrench’ by Foo Fighters.”

She continues, “Matt [Enlow] reached out to us about making a video about a year ago. He said he wanted to try making a really fun, campy video, so we thought it would be fitting for ‘Liar’ because of the Foo Fighters inspiration. Their music videos are so over-the-top and we’ve always wanted to do something like that. Matt came up with the whole concept and we loved it right away.”

SNAFU is out today via Get Better Records.
