Lizzo has released a video for crowd-pleaser “Tempo,” a favorite track off her new record Cuz I Love You (out last April) with rallying chorus cry, “Slow songs, they for skinny hoes / I’m a thick bitch, I need tempo!”
Directed by Andy Hines, the “Tempo” visual is set outside a fast food joint called Lizzo’s, where she dons a blue sequin bikini and red cowboy hat, the very picture of American patriotism. Lizzo and fellow “thick” girls twerk in the parking lot, and even the parked cars get into the spirit, bouncing up and down to the beat. Notably, a bunch of thin women are floating nearby in the air, unable to dance on the ground—perhaps they’re too light to touch down and join in the fun.
To spit her verse, Missy Elliott pops out from under the hood of a car (how’d she fit?) glowing a shade of neon green recalling Repo Man, trilling her R’s and wearing a necklace that reads “Iconic” (true). Watch below.
Lizzo will soon be hitting the road once again, continuing on her sold out North American tour. The Cuz I Love You Too Tour is the second leg of her international Cuz I Love You Tour, and picks up again on September 7 in New Orleans.
