A stamp of approval from John Waters is more than just a boost in clout—it’s a benchmark of success for any artist looking to pay homage to (or, more typically, to pervert) the go-go culture of the 1960s while skewering the concept of fame. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that Waters has championed the NYC-bred power pop group Baby Shakes, whose latest collection of songs Cause a Scene will be unleashed upon the world this Friday.

The title track, which the band is sharing today, is exactly what we’ve come to expect from the independent-minded punks—an unquestionably catchy single with lyrics inviting you to feel good about being yourself. The video for the single also feels particularly on brand, featuring the band performing the song as Godzilla-sized musicians intimidating the inhabitants of New York City. It isn’t long, though, before everyone realizes that they’re entirely harmless, and proceed to dance.

“This song is about doing what you love and sticking with it,” vocalist/guitarist Mary Blount tells us, “not giving a damn what people say, having fun, playing music, going on tour and causing a scene around the world.”

Cause a Scene hits stores September 20 via Lil’ Chewy Records. You can pre-order it here.
