Classic college radio, chillwave, hip-hop—the music of KennyHoopla encapsulates all of these disparate sounds and more in “Sore Loser//,” which comes with an evocative music video premiering below.

“I want to make a new nostalgia with my music,” KennyHoopla says of his heartfelt sound. “I want people that listen to my music to feel what I felt when I first heard artists I love today. That’s what I want to do with this song. I want to be an artist people can grow with.”

The nostalgia factor is indeed heavy on the track, which recalls kindred spirits like 4AD legends A.R. Kane and Detroit shoegaze icons Majesty Crush with its languid minor-key melodies and rumbling bass line. Citing such influences as The Drums, Teen Suicide, Common, and Funeral Suits, KennyHoopla has already caught the attention of Zane Lowe, who premiered the track as a World Record.

“Sore Loser//” and KennyHoopla’s previous tune, “Lost Cause,” are both set to appear on the artist’s debut EP, which is expected to arrive in early 2020.
