It’s been well over a year since Sophie Allison dropped her debut studio album as Soccer Mommy, Clean, and her new single “lucy” couldn’t have come soon enough. Before traversing the U.S. with Vampire Weekend and Wilco, the songwriter is giving us a taste some new material that will presumably make the cut for her setlists, a lush, full-band affair ideal for a live setting.

The song comes with a Matrix-y lyrics video, establishing an interesting new aesthetic for Allison. “‘Lucy’ is a really fun song for me because it has a dark, evil vibe,” she notes in a press release. “It’s a song about struggling with inner demons and your own morality, but I masked it with this scenario of being seduced by the devil. I’m really excited to share this with everyone because I think it shows a different side of my writing.”

The single also marks Allison’s migration to Loma Vista Recordings for the release (with whom she also released a collaborative single with HEALTH in 2018). You can watch the video below, and make sure to catch her opening spot at any of the dates listed below.
