Around this time last month, Mike Hadreas’ ever-evolving Perfume Genius project dropped a sprawling, nine-minute single called “Eye in the Wall” for the immersive dance project The Sun Still Burns Here, playing select cities through January. Shifting from the hauntingly minimal chamber pop of 2010’s Learning into progressive, neo-psychedelic ambiance with hints of dub and Latin disco—to soundtrack a performance piece in which Hadreas also dances—is quite the lane change, and one that has felt surprisingly natural every step of the way.

Today, Hadreas is sharing a second sample of Sun’s score, the slightly misnomered “Pop Song.” While more conventional (and four minutes shorter) than its predecessor, the atmospheric number is just as progressive in its slow-building structure.
