On the heels of an announcement that their sophomore album, The Noise You Make Is Silent, will be coming out via Mind of a Genius next year, Amsterdam-based trio Klangstof—comprised of Koen Van de Wardt, Wannes Salomé, and Erik Buschmann—have released a video for that album’s lead single, “Attack Attack.”

The Dutch indie rock band first came on the scene with debut LP Closed Eyes To Exit, an amalgamation of synth-pop, post-rock, and electronic music. They’ve since become an increasingly successful European export, and they were the first Dutch band to perform at both Coachella and Bonnaroo.

Of the visual premiering today, frontman Van de Wardt says, “I’ve always been very afraid to show up in front of the camera. Usually my first question to a director would be: ‘Can I please stay at home while you’re filming?’ For this one we thought it would be a good idea to let me smoke weed and put me in front of the camera. It was definitely less scary, but I had trouble staying awake pretty much throughout the whole shoot.”

Video director Arno Stols adds,  “The initial thought of the clip was…let’s give Koen a role…we wanted it to be gritty and dark. We wanted Koen to look fucked up and decided to make him smoke an actual joint. He reacted quite [strongly] to it and many of the clips we filmed he can’t even remember, as we had to wake him up, put him in front of the camera, and do the actual lip syncing while not really being there. Was a great challenge but really worked out.”
