Nashville-based indie singer-songwriter Maddie Medley is making her debut on Elektra Records with an EP called Coming Of Age, Pt. 1., expected out April 3.
Today we are premiering “Buzz,” a track described by Maddie in evocative terms: “I spent a whole summer falling in love and trying to write about it,” Medley shares. “I was trying to describe how I felt in a way that I would be able to feel again every time I sang it, and ‘Buzz’ was the result of that. It was the happiest and most excited I’d ever been about life. We spent months sitting on the front porch of a house in East Nashville, even if it was pouring rain. I really wanted that song to feel like how it felt sitting on that front porch. The location is so important to me when it comes to ‘Buzz’—I wouldn’t have had anything to sing about if it weren’t for that house and that porch in that neighborhood.”
The video for “Buzz” is vibrant and flush with flowers and vulnerability, finding Maddie in sunflower fields and buried beneath heaps of leaves, inviting a lover to power through her defenses: “Please get too close to me.”
This week also saw a devastating tornado blow through the city of Nashville, and as a resident, Maddie is passionate about helping. “East Nashville was particularly affected,” she says. “Many of the places and small businesses that made the summer I wrote ‘Buzz’ such a special time were completely destroyed.”
At the artist’s request, we’re including a few links to donate for relief: Middle Tennessee Emergency Response Fund and Restore the Dream Fund. Please give if you can, and watch the video for “Buzz” below.
