A dozen Tony Hawk games and half a dozen Scorsese films later and Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys have yet to be dethroned as the go-to St. Patrick’s Day party bands (I mean, punk + fiddle/accordion is a pretty niche aesthetic, and two bands is probably plenty).

That said, it isn’t all that surprising that both groups are rearing their heads on this Eve of All Paddies, the former with a positive, heartfelt message addressing the fact that this is the first time in their twenty year career they’re not performing on the Extremely Green holiday. “It’s a very surreal feeling,” they shared in a video uploaded to the band’s YouTube, before performing a stripped down rendition of “Float.” “But the most important thing is that everybody keeps safe and well, and takes care of those around them. Hopefully this separation that we all share right now will hopefully bring us even closer together someday.”

Meanwhile, the Murphys are gearing up for a live show, albeit one in the vein of their coronavirus-wary musical peers. The band will be live-streaming a show at 4 p.m. PT (that’s 7 p.m. Boston time where they’ll be playing, obviously), with more details available on their website. You can find that stream, as well as the Flogging Molly performance, below.
