We’ve got plenty of time to wait before Rod Thomas—known in the electronic music world as Bright Light Bright Light—shares his latest album Fun City with us. Promising a celebration of LGBTQ+ history, the record has so far been preceded by the upbeat “This Was My House,” which debuted last month.
Today Thomas is following that up with the crisp, uplifting “Sensation,” which features Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears on the track. “When Scissor Sisters burst onto the scene when I was doing a college radio show, I totally fell in love with their music and energy and they really showed everyone that LGBTQ+ people could still be huge international stars with no compromise of who they were,” Thomas enthuses. “For a song about connection and celebrating who you are, Jake was totally my top choice, and it was amazing to work with him again. I love him so much, and he’s such a powerhouse vocalist. It was so much fun to do a proper duet and have a voice that reminded me to be myself on a song about celebrating your community.”
“Rod’s songwriting always blows me away, and getting to record with him is an absolute joy,” Shears counters. “‘Sensation’ was just one of those songs, the first time I heard it, I was like—‘I flipping love this.’”
Stream the track below, and anticipate Fun City out later this year. For now, you can grab the single via DSPs here.
