Just over a month ago, Dave Sardy’s Unequal project reemerged with a hefty new single featuring songwriter Mondo Cozmo and a moody black-and-white visual that matched the project’s industrial aesthetic. Having produced for a long list of artists—ranging from The Who to Hobo Johnson, though typically dabbling in late-aughts indie powerhouses like LCD Soundsystem—it seems like there are dozens of vocalists who owe him favors, and Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell is the latest of which Sardy’s asked to cash that favor in.

“Items Taken” removes Bridwell from the polished alt-country of Infinite Arms—mixed by Sardy—and places him in the industrial throes of the Unequal universe. The collaboration works, of course, with Sardy’s lurching production opening up into sunny acoustic guitar on the chorus as Bridwell sings of roving drones. Stream the track below, and keep an eye out for more from the Unequal camp in 2020.
