2015. Courtney Barnett by Mia Mala McDonald.

After her combined EP collection, The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas, got a proper US release last year, caught hold of radio airwaves, and never let go, Courtney Barnett is back and ready to release her official debut album. Not one to miss an opportunity for a clever name, Barnett’s upcoming release is (very honestly) called Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit. Don’t we all, Courtney?

To mark the announcement, Barnett also dropped the video for Sometimes I Sit and Think‘s lead single, “Pedestrian at Best.” From the moment that the track starts, its clear that this is a Barnett composition: decisive and fuzzed-out guitar riffs, explosive percussion, and endearing signature sing-spoken vocals spouting intelligent and self-aware lyrics permeate through every second of the song. Even the semi-creepy video of a depressed clown (portrayed by Barnett herself) wandering through an amusement park follows her witty train of thought. Lyrics like, “Put me on a pedestal and I’ll only disappoint you / Tell me I’m exceptional I promise to exploit you,” gain an extra layer of humor as you watch the “2013 Clown of the Year” try and find meaning in life after success.

Check out the new track and video now, and look over the LP details for Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit below.
