With the light at the end of the winter tunnel starting to shine through, it’s more than appropriate that we get to hear some warm new music from our friends up north in Canada. The responsible party is Grounders, a Toronto-based quartet specializing in synth-pop of the dreamy variety, all shimmery licks and and groovy kicks.

Ahead of their upcoming self-titled debut, the group has shared the album opener “Secret Friend,” an earworm of a tune that references a track from McCartney II, and recalls the early days of The Walkmen—a band who knows (knew?) a thing or two about freezing their asses off waiting for spring.

Grounders are also setting out on a short little SXSW-oriented tour, for which you can check out the full list of dates below.

Grounders tour dates

March
4 – New York, NY – Cake Shop
5 – Philadelphia, PA – Milkboy

25 – Atlanta, GA – The Masquerade
26–28 – Slingshot Festival – Athens, GA

Grounders is out May 12 via Nevado Records.
