Since Doug Martsch first picked up his iconic red Strat and laid down the manifesto for Built to Spill some twenty-two years ago, the world has been listening, and the group has earned a rightful spot as one of the preeminent guitar groups of the modern era.

Unfortunately for us, however, they’ve been hanging back from the studio for a few years, with their last full-length release being 2009’s There Is No Enemy—an album that showed absolutely no sign of coming from a band slowing down (despite the fact that it preceded the largest release gap of their career).

Today, Built to Spill returned with “Living Zoo,” the first single from the upcoming album Untethered Moon—one of our most anticipated albums of the year. A proper reward for the extended wait, the track is just as dense, fun, and guitar-oriented as one could hope for from Martsch and the band (not to mention the fact that it features an honest-to-God tiger roar at one point). Welcome back, guys.
