Maybe Brian Wilson and his Beach Boys are mostly to blame, but it seems that the music world (or music journalist world, more precisely) has come to an agreement that descriptions of the “SoCal sound” must include the terms “sun-kissed,” “surf guitar,” and, sometimes, “stoner-rock.” For their debut full-length, No Moon at All, Los Angeles trio Wildcat! Wildcat! skipped the sand and headed straight for nighttime adventures, full of bright lights and car stereo systems. Through Morgan Kibby’s (M83, White Sea) shrewd production, No Moon at All is a collection of ten lush electro pop-rock tracks that could soundtrack any, and all, trips and nights out. Lead single “Hero” would fit perfectly within our favorite Ryan Gosling car thriller, while “Garden Grays” evokes the playfulness of Beyoncé’s “XO.” After your day in the sun, get ready for the night, and grab this album for your ride—you won’t want to leave home without it.
