LISTEN: Santigold Announces “99¢,” Shares “Can’t Get Enough of Myself”

At that price, who could?

Having probably just finished drying off from her rain-drenched set at this weekend’s Voodoo Music + Arts Experience, Santigold today announced her new album, the affordably named 99¢.

As the title and album art (which you can see below) might lead you to believe, 99¢ finds Santi exploring the ways in which people present themselves for public consumption. “People’s lives, persona, everything, is deliberate, and mediated,” she said in a statement. “It can be dark and haunting and tricky, and freak us out, but it can be also be silly and fun and we can learn to play with it.”

The album features production from Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend and TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, as well as a collaboration with iLoveMakonnen on the track “Who Be Lovin Me.”

You can get a free sample of 99¢ below, in the form of lead single “Can’t Get Enough of Myself,” which, like the quote above, seems to both celebrate and critique the culture of personal stylization. And you can learn more about the album at Santi’s bonkers new website.
