Less than a year after releasing their fifth album Time Will Wait for No One, Local Natives are already back with the news that its follow-up and companion piece, But I’ll Wait for You, will be out in April. In fact, “April” also happens to be the name of that record’s first single, kicking off the album campaign with a familiar blend of upbeat-yet-melancholy alt-pop with just a tinge of soul mingling in the mix.

“April” also comes paired with a video directed by Jonathan Chu (formerly of POP ETC née The Morning Benders) which recreates the iconic opening shot from Francis Ford Coppola’s mid-Godfathers passion project The Conversation (albeit a bit more flash-mob-y) in which the band members are covertly being observed from a rooftop. It isn’t entirely clear whether any of them are engaging in an illicit affair, but if I recall correctly that was also kind of the gist of that movie.

But I’ll Wait for You arrives April 19 via Loma Vista, and will be followed by a small North American tour kicking off May 4 at Redondo Beach’s BeachLife festival. “[It’s] maybe not an answer to a question but an exhale to an inhale,” the band clarified of the upcoming project’s relation to its predecessor. “There is so little that’s in our control but among all this chaos, we can choose to be there for each other.”
