YARD are one of the best testaments to date to how much of a cultural reset Gilla Band covering “Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage” wound up being. Channeling the industrial-techno atmosphere of Blawan and the manic noise-rock energy of their fellow Dubliners, the quartet are among a new generation of club-reared EBM groups beginning to infiltrate the festival scene—as proven by this past weekend’s Coachella set from Mandy, Indiana, for whom YARD recently opened.

As YARD prepare for their own slate of festival appearances this summer across the UK and Europe (including a performance at Primavera Pro, the Barcelona fest’s event spotlighting international acts), they’re sharing a massive new single called “Big Shoes” to pack on the hype. Instantly assaulting the sensibilities with a club beat and vocalist Ben O’Neill’s frantic vocals, the recording quickly amps up the oddly danceable sense of dread a minute in. “It’s about the desperation that comes with being broke and the sense of hopelessness and lack of self-worth that can manifest itself during hard times,” explains O’Neill of the track’s lyrics, which aptly match the music’s tenseness.
