Having already shared a stage with the likes of King Woman, Glitterer, Narrow Head, MSPAINT, and Hotline TNT, Phoenix’s Glixen are gearing up to hit the road again this summer with a newly announced set of dates playing with SASAMI and fellow shoegaze phenoms DIIV, as well as opening for Interpol at a local show in Mesa, Arizona. But before then, the four-piece is sharing a new single that demonstrates the direction their sound is heading into following the 2023 release of their debut EP She Only Said released via They Are Gutting a Body of Water’s Julia’s War label.

“lust” feels like the band’s heaviest track to date, transitioning fully from dream-pop wistfulness to pummeling, breakdown-esque riffs. The band’s Esteban Santana notes that the track was Frankenstein’d together from a few different ideas leaning into “bleak tones and intimate words” recited by vocalist Aislinn Ritchie, together capturing “a numbing sonic experience.” “‘lust’ began as two separate ideas that Aislinn and I had on guitar,” Santana shares. “Two melodies that were so perfect for each other, written separately and just flowed so naturally together once we were in the practice space. This song embodies the sounds that we've been trying to capture.”
