Last week marked the one-year anniversary of Bodywash’s I Held the Shape While I Could, the Montreal dream-pop duo’s second album which established a shift from a more conventional take on shoegaze to something frequently bordering on abstraction. There was a sense of uneasiness created by the record’s MO of further pulling away from the feeling of comfort shoegaze’s dense layers often elicit, with this sophomore effort exploring new textures and ambient territories often more in line with Seefeel than My Bloody Valentine.

Just a few months after announcing a summer tour with shoegaze vets Airiel and Blushing, the band is returning with a new remix to the album cut “Kind of Light” which takes that recording even further into the realm of Quique-esque ethereality. Reworked by Edmonton-based downtempo artist Khotin, the new version is an easier listen as its subtly morphing five minutes wash over the listener. “Khotin’s Release Spirit was in heavy rotation while we were on the road last year, soundtracking everything from the craggy cliffs of the Pacific Northwest to the dreaded NJ Turnpike, so we were keen to have him remix ‘Kind of Light,’” the band shares. “His version takes the tension and catharsis of the original song and injects it with blissed-out euphoria. It’s a track that’s destined for a sunrise slot in the chill-out room.”
